Pet Health Hub
Our online Pet Health Hub was launched thanks to players of People’s Postcode Lottery in 2018. Since then it has gone from strength to strength, growing the breadth and depth of content and being utilised by over 7.7 million visitors.
During the pandemic the Hub has become an invaluable resource for owners looking for accurate and trustworthy advice about their pets – at a time when face-to-face appointments with vets have been limited. Our content has helped worried owners make informed decisions about when their pet may (or may not) need to see a vet. It has also helped our vets by giving them somewhere to direct pet owners to for more detail and information following remote consultations.
During the summer an emerging problem in cats called panleucopenia was identified, which had possible links to certain brands of cat food which were subsequently recalled. Thanks to funding from players we were able to quickly add a page on the condition to our Pet Health Hub, ensuring concerned cat owners could access clear, accurate and trusted advice. The page received 7,000 visits within the first two weeks.
Other new topics added this year include heart murmurs in dogs and cats to help owners understand more about their pet’s heart problem and what to look out for if symptoms worsen or they need to see a vet.
In total the Hub now contains 275 articles, supporting owners to learn more about their pet’s symptoms and conditions. We are also working hard to integrate these pages with the rest of PDSA’s website to improve pet owners access to other content they might find useful and increase visitor numbers to the Hub pages.
