Gift Aid

  • Gift Aid
      • Do I pay tax on my pension?

You will receive a P60 each year, which shows any tax deductions from your pension.

      • You must be a UK taxpayer and have paid an amount of Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax for each year (6 April one year to 5 April the next) that is at least equal to the amount of tax that all the charities or Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASCs) that you donate to will reclaim on your gifts for that tax year.

      • You will have paid Capital Gains Tax, e.g. on the sale of property or shares.

      • You pay tax if:

        • Income tax is taken from your wages or salary before you receive your pay
        • You pay tax after filling in a self-assessment form each year
        • You have taxable savings e.g. in a Building Society or a pension plan
      • Indefinitely. PDSA is able to claim on any qualifying donations made over the past 4 years. If you wish to cancel your Gift Aid declaration or your tax status changes, please contact PDSA supporter services on 0300 3737 224.

      • Unfortunately you will be unable to make a Gift Aid declaration, but if you tick the non-taxpayer box, we will be able to update our records.

      • Nothing. It simply ensures that PDSA can claim an extra 25% back from the HM Revenue & Customs on any qualifying donations that you make.

      • PDSA is taking part in the ‘Great Gift Aid Hunt’ allowing Swiftaid, a Gift Aid automation platform approved by HMRC, to claim missed Gift Aid on our behalf for the most recent tax year. This service is free and allows PDSA to receive an extra 25p for every £1 donated at no extra cost to you.

      • No, Swiftaid will not keep your data. They will only use it to check if you’re signed up for their service. If you’re not registered with Swiftaid your data will be deleted automatically. Your information is never stored for future use unless you’ve opted in with Swiftaid directly.

      • PDSA claims Gift Aid directly from HMRC when we have a valid Gift Aid declaration from you. However, many eligible donations are missed if we don’t hold a current declaration that you have provided to us directly. Swiftaid helps us recover these missed opportunities for the last tax year, which increases the impact of your support. If you’d like to support us by providing your Gift Aid declaration directly, please contact the PDSA team by calling 0300 3737 224 or emailing fundraising@pdsa.org.uk. Charities can claim Gift Aid on donations from the past four years, whereas Swiftaid may only claim for the most recent tax year.

To be eligible for Gift Aid, you must be a UK taxpayer and have paid at least as much income tax or Capital Gains Tax as the charity will claim in that tax year.
