Loopie's story
When Loopie's owner found blood on his cat flap but no sign of Loopie, he feared the worst. He found him hiding and knew he needed emergency care. Thankfully, PDSA were there for them both.
Autumn brings longer nights, darker evenings and poor weather, all of which make for treacherous driving conditions. Cats are more at risk of being seriously injured in a road traffic accident in autumn than any other time of the year. Sadly, Loopie was one of those unlucky ones.
When Loopie's owner, James, couldn't find the three-year-old tabby, he knew something was wrong. It wasn't like Loopie to hide away from his owner, or ignore his calls, so James started searching for his beloved cat.
Loopie was hiding under a bed, covered in blood and barely recognisable after being hit by a car. James, terrified of losing his friend, scooped the cat up and called their local PDSA for help. He needed urgent care and was told to take Loopie straight in.
"I was devastated. His injuries were so horrific that I could barely look at him."
Loopie was in a critical condition and given pain relief straight away to help stabilise him. He had a broken jaw, severe head trauma and was bleeding heavily. His injuries were so severe it was touch and go as to whether he'd pull through.
If he was going to survive his ordeal, Loopie needed round-the-clock care and an emergency operation. After an intricate operation to wire his jaw back together and re-attach his skin, Loopie needed a further 12 days of intensive care in the hospital.
Sadly, Loopie still wasn't out of the woods. He needed a further operation as a result of his accident and it would be a long time before he recovered fully.
Against all odds, Loopie stayed strong and managed to pull through thanks to the hard work and dedication of the PDSA team. He's back home with James where he belongs while PDSA staff continue to work tirelessly to save more lives like Loopie's.
