I have additional pets that aren’t currently registered. Can I get treatment for them now?
Yes. If you have a new or additional pet that needs veterinary treatment, you can now register them at Huyton Pet Hospital.
Why did you need to restrict registrations at Huyton PDSA Pet Hospital?
Like the rest of the UK, Huyton PDSA Pet Hospital was experiencing severe shortages in veterinary staffing. As a result, we had to make the difficult decision to temporarily stop accepting new registrations, in order to prioritise the pets already registered with us.
Can I get treatment for all conditions at Hutyon PDSA Pet Hospital?
While staffing levels have improved, we are continuing to prioritise pets that need emergency, life-saving treatment. Routine care that can be delivered remotely will be provided over the phone.
Why can’t I have a face to face appointment?
We introduced remote consultations during the pandemic to allow us to continue to provide care and treatment while following social distancing guidelines. They were a great success, with lots of owners telling us that they preferred this way of accessing treatment as they were less stressful for pets, so we have continued to offer them.
Remote consultations also allow us to recruit vets from all parts of the UK, which, during the current storage of veterinary staff, is a great benefit.
Remote consultations are only booked for routine care; if the vet identifies that your pet needs to see a vet a face to face appointments will be booked.
Can I get preventive services at Huyton PDSA Pet Hospital?
While staffing levels have improved, we are continuing to prioritise pets that need emergency, life-saving treatment. No preventive services (such as vaccinations or neutering) are currently available.
We recommend you contact an alternative vet if your pet needs preventive care. You can find a list of vets local to you at findavet.rcvs.org.uk
What are you doing to try to get back to a normal service?
The shortage of vets is a UK-wide issue, it is not a problem specific to PDSA or Huyton.
We are working hard to solve the staff shortage problems as quickly as possible so we can return to normal services across our network of 48 Pet Hospitals.
